Kazu’s first days back are simple on the surface: the house next door, the girl he never stopped thinking about, a face that grew up without him. Shion Asougi is cooler than he remembers and more beautiful than he allowed himself to expect. He is ready to treat the reunion as a second start. She answers him carefully, as if every kind word has a cost he cannot see.

The cost is inside her home. Official materials state the premise without disguise: she returns his feelings, and her father still forces the household ritual he calls “getting along,” practiced hands on a body that is no longer only hers. The contrast is the episode’s engine—daylight conversation with Kazu, then the door that closes on a life he is not allowed to know.

She performs both roles because she sees no third option. Telling him would, in her mind, destroy the one clean thing left. Staying silent means every smile is a lie. Episode 1 is the setup of that trap: a childhood-friend reunion that should have been gentle, already rotting at the root.
