Ryou Fujihashi, a diligent office lady, is constantly roped into setting up group dates (gokon) by her childhood friend Souma Mizuno, a charismatic firefighter who refuses to settle down and flirts endlessly. Fed up with his carefree, womanizing attitude, Ryou views him as nothing more than a "chara" guy unworthy of serious romance. One fateful night, after returning home, Ryou awakens to the blare of sirens—her apartment building is engulfed in flames. Trapped and terrified, she calls out desperately until the firefighters arrive. In a shocking twist, Souma is among the rescuers; he bursts in, shields her from falling debris, and carries her to safety, even scolding her for going quiet because he feared the worst. With her home destroyed and nowhere to go, a concerned Souma invites her to crash at his place.
